Parasite Patrol Tour Event: Winneshiek County

An applied workshop focused on improving parasite monitoring and control in sheep and goats using practical, cost-effective tools. This session will include a detailed look at the life cycle of gastrointestinal nematodes and how anthelmintic resistance develops, along with strategies to use fecal egg count data to guide treatment decisions.

Participants will:

  • Learn proper collection and handling of fecal samples
  • Understand fecal egg count testing and how to interpret results
  • Examine the life cycle of key gastrointestinal nematodes
  • Understand how anthelmintic resistance develops and how to slow it
  • Discuss management practices that support long-term parasite control

What to bring:

A fresh fecal sample from your sheep or goats (collected within 24 hours, kept cool but not frozen)
